The Takeover of Berlin
Not too long ago, we were able to add two new pictures to our gallery, showing the Mystery Center, Sub and PA chassis in a very unusual cabinet. Nik Nowak, a Berlin sound artist who specializes in attention-getting projects, sent us the pictures after finishing his “sound tank,” to which we were more than happy to contribute the components. After it was first presented at a festival in Hamburg in June of 2011, Nik was celebrated on several websites where he introduced his creation in words and images. Not only are there a few videos on YouTube showing the sound system at its christening and making one or the other appearance at events; the TV station ZDF also featured the two Berliners on its cultural channel.
An email announced the next campaign that Nik and his sidekicks were planning for Pentecost Saturday 2012. It offered a reason for people beyond just our friends in the capital to visit Alexanderplatz in Berlin. It was a peaceful occasion, even if the leading role was played by a tank. The email read:
You are warmly invited to attend the peaceful takeover of Berlin.
A campaign to take back our public spaces.
Meet at Alexanderplatz at 3:30 pm
We depart at 4 pm
arriving at Görlitzer Park around 6 pm
DJ SPINN & DJ RASHAD (Foodwork/Chicago)
SCHOCKGLATZE (Tank Residents)
We hope all of the participants had a great time! We can’t wait to see what Nik will do next.
